![]() While the huge levels are great combat arenas, there are two extended sequences in the game which require you to not only grab a keycard, but then use THAT keycard to find four seals hidden around the area to open a locked door. ![]() I mentioned keycards in my opening paragraph, and SS3 will brutally remind you why games have moved on. A new addition are contextual melee attacks where you can do such things as rip an enemy’s eye out/head off or even pull out their heart Mola Ram-style. It shoots cannonballs that are larger than Sam himself. The minigun (that you never have to reload, natch) will make short work of enemy waves, the Devastator, which is basically a rocket/grenade launcher with a sniper scope, and of course Sam’s Cannon. You have your basic machine guns, shotguns and rocket launcher, but a few really stand out as fun. Ok, it's not THAT BAD by itself, and I was thinking might've even worked in the originals, while I was thinking that I realized I don't owe it to anyone to finish this, and replaying the original on higher difficulty would be a lot more fun.Warning: Sam is not a licensed Optometrist. You'd have to track her down quickly, but again she has so much health you have to find her 5-10 times, All while handling the usual mob. The last straw for me was when they introduced another cheap enemy, a floating psychic lady that teleports around/goes invisible and 1/10 your sensitivity. There were times where enemies where grouped up together and I instinctively switch to the rocket launcher, at those times I realize I just probably screwed myself because I'm not supposed to have fun, only hold m1. Find the occasional rockets? you can use it to kill 2 enemies, back to hold m1 then hide to reload like an idiot, and repeat for you. But no, only 6, and guess what? since the enemies are tankier that's only enough for 1-2. In the older games they'd give you tons of ammo with it to go crazy and try it out. There was a section where the game gives you a new weapon, the sniper rifle. So you have to hold m1 for 5 minutes, then hide to reload then repeat 2-3 times per big enemies. requiring like 100 shots, and guess what. the medium large enemies are way tankier too. ![]() (Other than specific boss fights where they give you infinite respawning ammo crates) 99% of the time they expect you to only use the assault rifle and shotguns. The amount of ammo drops for rockets or the sniper are like as rare as bfg/sword ammo in doom eternal. This game doesn't want you to use the fun weapons. They're only balanced by the fact that they don't do much dmg (in normal and hard, maybe they're extra bs in serious). In fact, feels like all the smaller enemies (humans, monkeys, spiders) are designed to deal cheap dmg. In 3, a lot of enemies have cheap hitscan weapons that potshot you while you're dealing with bigger enemies. And that is the essence of what made these games good, dodging, juggling and prioritizing the chaotic hordes of enemies. ![]() Other than the gatling gun scorpions in 1&2, which you're supposed to take cover from/kill asap, all enemies had slow dodgeable projectiles. I'm also not gonna be "this is bad because it's different". No, I don't have nostalgia rose tinted glasses, I've only played them weeks ago. Serious sam 1st & 2nd encounter were almost masterpiece, I'd give them 9/10. ![]()
